Every week I meet with brides who are totally stressed out over choosing flowers for their big day. In this fast paced, technical computer age we all live in today,some brides are overwhelmed by dealing with the abstract concepts of the florist's world. I have found that obtaining a little floral knowledge will go a long way in helping these brides have a stress free experience planning their wedding flowers.
The first step is to choose a few floral professionals to meet with. Again, a little research will go a long way. Recent brides are a great resource for recommendations. Bridal shops , country clubs and photographers will usually have favorite florists to recommend.Most quality floral professionals will have websites to visit.
Once you have narrowed it down to a few floral professionals to meet with, the next step is to determine any flower likes and dislikes. Certain flowers may have significant meanings to some couples, or family traditions may come into play as well. Some brides love lilies, others do not like the aroma or are allergic to the pollen. Roses are the long time favorite, but you may want to step to a different tune with tropical flowers and fruits! Research the wedding sites on line and the wedding magazines available everywhere.
Color is another concept many people have problems dealing with. Look at a color wheel, it will help you put combinations together that will compliment or match your color theme.Try to have a location and dress colors picked out before meeting with your floral professional. Bridal and attendant bouquets should be designed to compliment dress color and style , not the other way around. This will save much time and help your florist make suggestions to better meet your needs.
Remember, be open to the professional's suggestions, but do not let go of your own likes and dislikes. It's great to work with someone who is excited about your big day but, do not forget whose day it is! Plan your wedding as far in advance as possible and always make an appointment before dropping in to a flower shop to talk about wedding flowers. This will save time for both you and your florist. It does not pay to drive across town to a floral shop only to find they are booked up on your date. Following a few of these tips will save the busy bride time , money and most of all make the big job of planning what may be the most important day of her life relatively stress free!
